Hello, does anyone know the name of the XP Standby mode program and in which directory it is?

I've got a new Logitech keyboard with all kinds of cute keys, but apparently the 'User' button doesn't put the computer into standby mode in Windows XP.

The other buttons are re-programmable, but I don't know which program does the standby bit?

Thanks.

Thanks Ferrit, but the article says, 'If your computer has an ATA Packet Interface (ATAPI) hard disk that is larger than 137 gigabytes (GB), you may experience any of the following symptoms: etc.'

I don't have a ATAPI hard disk larger than 137 Gig and I used to use Standby by pressing one button on my previous keyboard and am trying to find out which program to assign it to, does anyone know?

:grin:Now you're scaring her Ferrit. :eek2:
Listen Mags, there is no Standby "program". That is a function of the m/b acpi along with operating system settings.
Give this troubleshooting answer a go:

First, make sure the Power Management settings are enabled within your system BIOS. If you do not know how to access your system BIOS, please contact your system manufacturer for assistance with these settings.

Next, try changing the properties for the keyboard:

Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
Double click on System.
Click on the Hardware tab.
Click on the Device Manager button.
Click on the plus (+) sign next to Keyboard.
Double click the Easy Internet Keyboard or Logitech HID Compliant Keyboard entry.
Click on the Power Management tab. NOTE: If this tab is missing on your system, make sure the Power Management settings are enabled within your system BIOS.
Make sure that the box labeled "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is checked. If it is not checked, place a check mark in the box.
This should take care of the issue. If you continue to have problems, please contact (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/utilities/contact/US/EN) Customer Support.

No, he's not!

Yes, items 1 to 8 are fine and if there isn't a program, I think I'm not going to be able to do this via the new keyboard. I can use the Start/Shut Down/Standby buttons fine .. but it does say in the Help for the keyboard that -

Note
The Sleep key function is not available if you are using Windows XP.

I just thought it I could find the program, I could get round it.
Looks like it won't be possible. My old keyboard did it fine, but it didn't have all the gadgets and some of the letters were faded (that was the quality of the keyboard not the length of time it's used!)

Mags, the sleep portion of that answer was at the bottom. It seems you may need a registy "fix":

Windows 2000/Windows XP Sleep Button Options
If you would like the Windows 2000 or Windows XP sleep button options to appear when you press the Suspend key on your keyboard, please download one of the following .REG files, depending on the type of keyboard you are using.

If you are using a USB keyboard, click here (ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/keyboards/itouch/shutdown_usb.reg). Once you have downloaded the file, double click it to merge the information into the registry. This reg files perform the following registry changes.

Click on the plus [+] next to HKEY_Local_Machine.
Click on the plus [+] next to System.
Click on the plus [+] next to CurrentControlSet.
Click on the plus [+] next to Services.
Click on the plus [+] next to LCcfltr.
Click on the plus [+] next to Parameters.
Double click on the entry for DisablePowerKeyHandling.
Change the value to 1.
Exit the Registry; saving is automatic.

If you are using a PS/2 keyboard, click here (ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/keyboards/itouch/shutdown_ps2.reg). Once you have downloaded the file, double click it to merge the information into the registry. This reg files perform the following registry changes:

Click on the plus [+] next to HKEY_Local_Machine.
Click on the plus [+] next to Software.
Click on the plus [+] next to Logitech.
Click on the plus [+] next to iTouch.
Click on the plus [+] next to OEMInfo.
Double click on the entry for DisableiTouchPowerHandling.
Change the value to 1.
Exit the Registry; saving is automatic.

Hi Triple, thanks, I hadn't noticed that.

I checked my Registry but when I go to the OEMInfo bit, I found I hadn't got one ... then I did a 'Find' in Regedit and I don't have a DisableiTouchPowerHandling either ..

So think I'm gonna have to live with this.

Mags, do you see the link marked click "here"? That will install the registry fix. It wasn't meant to do manually. Listen, if your old kb did the trick, this one will, too. I'm sure you can even call Logitech for free considering it's a new purchase. btw: do you have the latest ITouch software?

Thanks Triple, yes I tried the downloaded Registry fix, it didn't solve it, and yes I do have the latest iTouch software.

May leave it for now, as just about to post another problem. I'm tending to leave my PC on now, instead of putting it on Standby, maybe it's better for it, although costs more in electricity. But yes, when I get back to this, can contact Logitech. Thanks for your help again.
