Ports & Coms Disappeared

I have a sony Vaio Laptop and the Ports and Coms have disappeared from my computer. I have tried to use my usb cords and I can no longer do so because there is no coms to place it to. The Ports are not even listed in the Hardware section of the computer.

Would anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this problem or why this would have happened. I contacted Sony and there suggestion was to reformat my computer. I did that but I didn't help the problem.

Com ports are different to usb ports. What do you have listed under USB or Universal Serial Bus ? Should be at least one hub and one controller. If nothing is there, it is likely that they got turned off in the computer setup (bios). Re-enable them and they will reinstall themselves. If they are enabled in bios, then it's possible they went faulty. If you have reformatted, then if they were simply uninstalled, they would have been reinstalled.
