Can SOMEBODY out there help me? I'm using Windows XP I have an hp ScanJet 6100C scanner that is lit, plugged in, yet when we try to use it, the computer indicates a message that says a connection can't be found. Also, I see no icon for such in the system tray on the lower right hand side. Hence, I wonder if the drivers are not installed -- or were uninstalled accidentally. (This is not my computer; I'm trying to assist a baffled friend.)
I did do a search through the computer for anything containing the term "6100" and several things came up in the C drive, e.g., "C:\I386" and "C:\WINDOWS\INF" but I'm not sure what one could relate to the problem. I think somehow the drivers got uninstalled and was wondering if anyone could send me the drivers. Or explain how I could get them in a free download as hp no longer has the actual drivers (so I've read) -- just the updates. I need the whole shebang, methinks. . . ANYONE OUT THERE? Shouldn't the icon be in the system tray if it's configured? If you go into PROGRAMS, you see the SCANDESK icon -- which is also hp -- and my friend thinks that is the actual program that runs it, even though it is of a different name. Yet, if the program IS installed on there, how do I make it run? HELP!
