Old Epson laser printer prints great self test, nowever cannot get drivers downloaded to work with win 98SE and am moving up to Win XP Pro.
Would like to use this printer for long text printouts instead of my laser jet.
Any ideas. All I get is gobblydook. Have tried different settings of dip switches according to manual. Thx.

The driver for your printer is native to XP. XP will detect the printer and automatically install the driver.

Actually, no, don't have too many ideas. But... if you are printing from a serial interface, there are additional switches to set depending on Baud rate. A mismatch here will generate garbage. Can you go to a command prompt, change to the Windows directory and use the dir > lpt1 (or whatever port your printer is on) command to print a directory listing? Have you already been to Epson's website for your GQ-3500?

Notice the link for Manuals. Your User's Manuals are available for download. Are you trying to print via the serial interface? Its manual is also available. It should be able to help you out with your dip switches. Also, make sure that you're using the correct cable. A lot of cables may physically look the same but are wired differently internally. This is my best guess of the cause of your problems.
Where did you download your drivers from? They should already be embedded with Win98SE.
Q: Where can I find a driver for Windows 98?
A: Epson's printers are fully compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 and drivers are available on the Windows 98 installation CD from Microsoft.
Your Win98SE drivers should be located in driver15.cab. They might already be located on your hard drive. Try performing a Find for that file if you don't have the Win98SE Installation CD.
