as i have just said i have a few Hp DJ 640c, all connected to stand alone 98se pc, one or two are share the printers but it happens to them all. and after a while of use a message appears that the printer is out of paper but the tray is either full or half full. if you turn off and on it seems to work for a while but it soon happens again. the machines are tiny (as in the company not size) machines and also run winsuite on them. any help out there cheers.

You might try reading up on Fixing Paper Feed Problems on 600 Series Printers...just to make sure you have the paper and the trays installed properly.
Go here for the parts breakdown for your DeskJet. There is a Flag for the Out of Paper Sensor (OOPS) available. This is actually a little plastic pendulum that hangs down. When paper is installed properly, it should push that flag up...when no paper is installed, gravity causes the flag to hang down. You might try blowing some air up around that sensor and check for debris, etc. preventing the flag from smooth operation.
Just a couple of suggestions...Good Luck!
