ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 drivers for Windows Server 2003

I recently upgraded my laptop (IBM ThinkPad R51) to Server 2003. The graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 - and I'm unable to find drivers for Server 2003. IBM doesn't support this as the laptop was built for XP. ATI won't help either - says I need to call the laptop manufacturer.

The main feature I am looking for in the ability to run dual monitors. In device manager, the display adapter is the default "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Help?!?

I am running the 32 bit version of Server 2003. I have tried installing the XP and Windows 2000 versions of the driver off of ATI's website to no avail.

Finding a driver for a Laptop Video card and a server OS may prove to be difficult if not impossible. I really don't think manufacturer thought that anyone would want to put a SERVER OS on a laptop. The OS is not designed for that environment. Thats why they call it Windows Server. What is the purpose for you doing this? I am just curious. Cuz if you are not going to use the laptop for server functions, just stick with XP.

Why would you post a link to Intel driver page when it was clearly stated that he had an ATI video card?

Yes, but the Thinkpad R51 also had a Radeon Video card option. The intel was the basic one. So thats why I was asking.

Have you try to install the XP drivers anyway?

Download the latest ATI XP drivers that's compatible with the Ati Mobility Radeon 7500 and extract the files to a temp folder. Go to either display properties or Device Manager and install the drivers by pointing to to the XP drivers.

See if it installs. If not than it's most likely Ati Mobility Radeon 7500 is not supported under Server 2003.

Yes, I have tried to install the XP drivers (see post #3). The laptop does need to run under the Server 2003 OS, or we wouldn't be running it (we aren't doing this for fun, trust me). The laptops are being used by a group of professional developers and the code eventually ends up on production server boxes that are running Server 2003. There are too many differences between how IIS operates on an XP OS vs. Server 2003... Anyhow - any other ideas?

Nothing can be found from ATI that states that their radeon cards support Server 2003. Its a shame really. All I came up with is this utility that supposed tells Radeon Driver compatibility with your system.

Have you found the driver for server 2003? I have ThinkPad T41 and thinking to install windows server 2003 the same reason as you did. Do you mind posting how your end up with this? thanks

hastings, you really need to go back and read BOB IROCs posts again. A server OS is totally unsuitable for a laptop. It is a waste of time, effort and money. Server 2003 isn't cheap. Running it won't give you any capabilities on a stand alone system that you won't find in, say, XP Pro.

If you'll explain why you want the OS point by point, I'll be happy to explain point by point why it is a lousy idea and how other choices would be better.

thanks Noonoo, no I haven't tried any driver yet. I just wanted to see if someone has done that before I screw up my t41.

Hi slgrieb, the main reason to upgrade it to win2k3 is I have another dsktop workstation that's reloaded with win2k3 from its original xp. And win2k3 is much faster and the system resources management is much better as well. Running mutiple IE and firefox instances are handled much better and they take lesser cpu resource. Most important is that win2k3 is a server and it supports multiple remote access point. While winxp do not support that. when people remote in the console user is hanged out. This is very important for a network admin need to login someone's machine to install something without any interupting for example.

IBM uses Radeon XL graphics cards for their xseries servers, how about giving that driver a go?

well it is a wrong direction but thanks. first I'm not looking for solutions but experiences. second, the display card in t41 is ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500, subsystemID 0530. and it's not in the eserver's supported list.
