Hello folks,

This one has me stumped.

I performed a major cleaning on this PC. Had spyware/viruses.

I had to do a repair install of Windows in order to get 'most' things running right again. I have applied all updates, including SP2.

Here is my problem. This machine has Office XP Pro on it. When I go to Office Update, first I get this box:

The current web page is trying to open a site in your trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this?

Current site: g.msn.com
trusted site: office.microsoft.com

I have never seen this box before. Of course I click yes. It comes up 2x. When I click on "check for updates", it goes to the next screen. Sometimes it asks me to load the activex control, which I do. It then goes to the "install the office update installation engine" screen. But nothing else happens. It just dies right there. I am never presented with the list of updates available.

I have tried everything on MS's web site concerning this. Nothing has worked thus far. I have performed a Office repair also.

Any suggestions? I have been having a LOT of activex problems lately with different programs/web pages.

I can provide more info if needed.

Try down loading this and see if this helps your problem. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

I will try it. I am not having problems reaching web sites, though.

Thanks,

Tr registering all these dll's ( i suggest coping them to note pad and save as a .bat file and then run the batch file). This will reregister the dl's needed for updates as well as a bunch for IE.

regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll

OK, I tried that bat file. All files succeeded except this one:

regsvr32 msjava.dll

I get this message for it:

Loadlibrary("msjava.dll") failed - the specified module could not be found.

The office update goes to 10%, then 30%, then changes screens to the "install the office update engine" screen, same as before. I am never given the option to install the activex, and it still is not showing me the updates available.

Should I reinstall Java?

Thanks,

A

Look in Windows downloaded program files for the Activex control for office and delete it (office Update Installation). Then if running a antivirus or third party firewall shut it off then try updating office again,

Try This: In Internet Explorer go to Tools> Internet Options> Delete (check the delete offline content box)

Have you tried uninstalling Office XP and reinstalling it again? Just make notes of any directories that it might point to by default and you might have to correct once you reinstall.

I just did a complete reinstall of Office. I am getting the exact same thing. The office update page comes up, I let it load the office update installation engine. It goes to 10%, then 30%, then goes away. I still am not presented with a list of updates available, just the same screen.

Try running thought MS' own troubleshooting for updating failures.
