By MicroSoft. street1 March 15th, 2006, 12:24 AM They renamed it Vista.I think that is a Spanish word for view. Anyway Uncle Billy and his crew is supposed to hit us with it in about 6 months or so. Most average to low end older computers won't get much use out of it. Third world countries and poor people won't bite on the new deal. So Uncle Billy better hope the affluent need his -LongHorn Dung!!! :p   DonJ March 15th, 2006, 10:57 AM I moved this thread here from the Politicos forum. Seems better suited here. Stalemate March 15th, 2006, 11:41 AM Windows Vista is now considered to have a complete set of features (no new ones added). Bunch of screenshots here: http://techrepublic.com.com/2300-10877_11-6043696-1.html houseisland March 16th, 2006, 10:51 PM Just taking Vista Beta for a test drive here. First impressions: :) So far. Poor driver support -- but not unexpectedly so. No ATI All-in-Wonder. No Scanner. No Hercules Digifire sound card. No voice support for USR modem (not that I care). Easy install, fairly quick from a 3 GB DVD. Clean look. Admin tools squirrelled away, but not too hard to find. Security popups here there and everywhere when you are doing/installing/modifying things. More later. Duke of Rezin March 21st, 2006, 09:41 PM I suppose I'll eventually get Vista, but it seems to me to be the biggest attempt yet at preventing legitimate file users from actually using the files they legally purchased in the manner that they see fit. MS is touting security, but I'm sure there already are all sorts of exploits just waiting to be exploited (not that I intend to do any exploiting myself). All the illegitimate file users no doubt will be the least bit troubled at continuing with their mischief. format c: March 22nd, 2006, 04:20 AM Yes just what we need, More NAG screens " You don not know how to use a computer, click the x to access your files " " Are you sure" " Are you realy sure " " OK, sorry you do not have access under your administrators account " I can't stand Microsofts security measures, they just get in the way houseisland April 3rd, 2006, 07:25 PM Beware! More and better time wasting games are included with Vista. I didn't look for them at first -- too interested in other stuff. Spent far too much time this afternoon playing MahJong and Chess. Gave up on trying to get it to work with Server 2003 terminal services. Server 2003 admin tools won't install on it. Lot's of nice eye candy everywhere. windrivers.com
