Is there a mechanism in place to validate that new forum registrants are human (ie using one of those warped picture of numbers and letters 'captcha'?), and not a spambot or harvesting information etc?

Hello dark,
I think if you want a mechanism to validate that'll be nice to argue it out ,.But i believe that the emoticons are there to express the tension under which one is in order to get quick help,'cos some bosses want results within the shortest possible time. Even though i'm new here b4 coming here in the normal life of a sys. admin. things are hot and to relieve some tension one has to move faster , therefore cut certain things short( letters captcha)only if the other reader can understand what you mean.
If you also find out that they are not human then the best way is to cut them out !

JP, while it's good to know we're protected from Harvesters, etc. I'm really more concerned about what measures are in place to insure that posters are not extraterrestrials, demonically possesed, or Republicans.

If they post within the rules, they can be E.T.s possessed, repossessed, democrat, libertarian, or republican. Or even apolitical.
