Welcome to WinDrivers, WhiteDragon.

I'm a little puzzled that it refers to an SR1700 series as SR1000, however be that as it may, the model SR1729UK is valid:

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06b/35123-35527-187917-187917-187917-12316936-67698297.html

but searches on that model on the HP website return no driver references.

You may be best to go here:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/support.html

and try using the automatic product detection.

Do you have the recovery disks that came with your computer? Since it is
new you should find drivers on your CD`s :)

Call Compaq and request to speak to someone higher up than who you are talking to. They will gladly send them to you at no charge. As long as you purchased Computer.

Had this same problem. Managed to get the helpful one at HP, and discover that the audio chipset these machines use is a Realtek ALC882. Drivers for this seem to be readily available everywhere except (ironically) Realtek and HPs site.

Worked for me, hope this helped you (tho' I realise the age of this problem!)

This is the url for your drivers at Compaq: http://tinyurl.com/lfugl

edit: also note that they class ALL units in the 1000 - 1999 range as 1000 series. http://tinyurl.com/r7juk

.. which is a link to the compaq support site, which doesn't contain audio drivers at all. Hence the reason for the OP!

I found them here:

I generally try and stear people when they have some knowledge - the url i gave does lead from HP site to realtek IF the person can read English. It also clearly specifies the tech specs for his model of the '1000' series, the SR1729UK so he gets the correct stuff AND has a bookmark for future use.
