and now, something completely different. I got one o dem girlfriends right? She was a dance major (ballet) and graduated with a bachelors degree and loves it ...so naturally she wants to get into it in some way. Yes, right now is when you get scared. She finds this dance studio that offers a cheap 20$ for two private lessons, cheap but this geeky gearhead don't dance and is about as graceful as an ox (I'm 6'8 and not real heavy...at all). And for the record, she's 5'2. Yes, that's 1' 6" difference.

Now, don't get me wrong, I can play baseball/softball with the best of 'em and pretty decent at just about any sport...but fubar don't dance -- not even at the bars when heavily intoxicated. Doesn't happen. So with a compromise between sides (she goes to the races), be afraid.

We've since taken 12+ lessons and I'm into the intermediate with the hustle (17 steps I think with that one, most by far) -- I say I because she picks up on this stuff :snaps fingers: instantly, big surprise. The current listing includes hustle, foxtrot, rumba, salsa, cha-cha, swing (east) and merengue (mar-ran-gay). What's better -- the pimp factor. There's a wedding coming up here in a few months and by then, we might have something "ready" for this, just to show off a bit (ok a lot). I personally love the hustle -- its fluid, lots of movement and some cool stuff can be done but for the place, probably foxtrot or rumba will be used.
:flame:

What's better is no one in the family knows this is coming ('cept my parents) and it's slowly becoming proof even big time nerds can dance. Makes me somewhat curious if anyone else here does this kinda stuff... if they'll admit it anyway :)

Other than the mercifully brief and enebriated episodes forced upon me by various girlfirends/wives, the only time I "danced" to any extent was thirty-some years ago, when the military academy I attended forced me to learn Ballroom Dancing.

I've been declared the best dancer in my city by a radio DJ when i used to hang in clubs while he was doing a tour of the dance places back then.

Yeah, the type of dancing you see in music videos.

No, I don't do it anymore. ;)

Well, my first wife was heavily into square dancing, so I learned too. For a decade or so we used to religiously (if your concept of "religion" is being forced to pray at gunpoint) attend all the local, state, and national conventions, etc. Today, I only dance when my wife and daughters beat me to the bathrooms.

I started out as a drummer back when the drums were on their own riser, above the rest of the band, back in the 1960's. From up there, the dancers back then looked pretty strange, and I never developed any talent/inclination toward dancing as a result of this.
