Hi,

I have the following network setup:

cable modem wired into linksys wired befsr41 version 2, xp sp 2 wired to befsr41 and wrt54g wired to befsr41. 2nd xp sp 2 machine wired to wrt54g and 3rd xp sp 2 machine connects wirelessly to wrt54g with help from linksys expander.

The wrt54g is set as a gateway. Believe it or not this setup works but I have 1 major problem. The befsr41 keeps getting jammed. I have lowered the MTU to 1300 but that hasn't helped. What happens is I loose my ability to ping the befsr41 - it just times out. I can wait, sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 15 and the connection comes back or I can turn the router off and on to restore the connection.

Does anyone have any ideas? Linksys doesn't!

I had some similar problems with a Linsys router a while back, I tried a factory reset, which didn't really help, but then I flashed the latest firmware to it (it was running like a 2 year old firmware) and its worked like a champ ever since.

Thanks, but have already done that.

you're not using any real lengthy cable pulls are you?

I may have a long pull to the cable modem but the router has a 50 foot connection and a 10 foot connection. Both get jammed. So when I can't ping the router I can't ping from any of the three computers.

Why not get rid of the BEFSR41? WRT54G gives you 4 wired LAN ports... enough for what you need.

Like CeeBee says, you really would appear to have no need for 2 routers. If you are going to keep both of them online, disable DHCP on one.
