For whatever reason yesterday, my previously fine computer audio-wise no longer played any type of audio. The computer acts as if everything is working fine. Songs will play, etc. Yet, no audio comes through to the speakers. I have tried different speakers. Everything is plugged in properly. The computer recognizes that there are speakers. Yet, there is no audio. I gather from the forums that I must have a sound card problem. I downloaded that Everest program so I can give you whatever info is needed.

For now, I will say that I use Windows XP Home Edition with SP 2. I have a Dell Dimension 4500S with Intel Pentium 4 Motherboard 1800 mhz.

My "audio adapter" is Intel 82801DB ICH4 - AC`97 Audio Controller A-1

My soundcard is SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio.

All of the sound cards and such are working properly according to the computer. I really would like to know where I should turn now. I appreciate any help you all can provide for me. Thank you.

I know this will seem like a dumb question, but there isn't anything plugged into the headphone jack is there?

Also, have you tired headphones in the headphone jack?

I believe this (http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R46202.EXE) should be the correct audio driver from dell if you want to try a re-installl.......................if you want to be certain that's the correct one, put your service tag # in here (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz), and browse to the drivers and choose "Audio drivers."

Have you double checked all audio levels are turned up, not muted, etc. ?

3finger, thank you so much! The driver re-install worked after a couple of tries. I now have audio again on the computer. If anything else goes wrong I'm sure I can get plenty of help from this forum. Thanks again! :)
