MSN/Hotmail emails to Internet Explorer or Thunderbird

How do I configure Internet Explorer or Moziller Thunderbird to get emails from my Hotmail or MSN accounts. I used to be able to get them, when I had XP on my old computer, but now I have a notebook, I cannot get them downloaded.

What settings must I put into IE or MT to automatically get my Hotmail emails downloaded?

Please make any explanation easy for me to understand.

I beleive they ahve changed MSN hotmail and they do not allow that anymore unless you get the paid subscription
