We are looking to decommission our older Compaq Proliant ML530 server.
It is 5 yrs old, and originally had Windows NT server, but was upgraded to Windows 2000 server. Our corporate HQ wants us to move the apps from this server, to a newer box that is supported under warranty.

Our question is, would Windows XP Pro find the RAID controller on this box? Do you think it would be compatible with the hardware? We'd hate to dispose of the machine due to our corporate policies, but if XP works on it, we'd just rebuild it as a hefty workstation to keep Ghost images on, or just for local IT apps, etc...

Thanks!

Without knowing the specific controller in your ML530 (there are lots of options), I don't know if XP has native support for it, but all of the controllers for the 530 are supported in W2K and Server 2003, so you shouldn't have too much trouble installing XP. Might have to download an updated driver from HP, but there shouldn't be a major problem.

I just did this after being told it could not be done. :) I had to use the Compaq Smart Array driver for Win 2000 Server Pro from the compaq website. I slipstreamed it into a Windows XP Pro install disk and it installed as perfectly as I could wish for. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Kind of a drag to have a new BMW that starts out chipped, isn't it?
