i just changed out my hd and did a clean install of xp in my hp 6736. she's old but works hard for me. i tried to play a dl tune in media player, but the vocals are distorted. i uninstalled the intel sound driver and installed the audio codec for cs4299 which is for the sound in my mobo. it never changed anything in the sound. i am going to reinstall the intel driver if i can find it again because during my troubleshoot i came across a list of drivers supported in xp. the crystal audio codec was on the list! then i found out that because the install xp disc was dell not hp the programming may be all messed up. i find it hard to believe . it is an oem winxp sp2 disc bought online at a reputable site. i may be wrong but i believe the disc is good but i have an issue with my sound drivers or bios or chipset drivers or something.... i don't know but i am running out of hair to pull . and i got alot. please can someone help?

There is 3 types of HP Pavillion 6736 if yours is 6736cn you need the BIOS upgrade.
Read -Why do I need it?

Note:I am not a BIOS upgrade "as the first option "person. If it goes wrong your computer is dead.

I only recommend BIOS upgrade as a last resort.
