I am considering doing a nondestructive restore, I have Norton Ghost 10 installed, could I use the date that is within that software to reinstall the current configuration, or will that just return the PC to the current problems.

It the little unexpected things that pop up from time to time, like the new hardware wizard starts up and I have no idea where it came from.

I have started a thread with regards that item

I started a Norton Virus check at 08:20 and have stopped it at 18:40. it had not completed the scan off the system by then.

Regards.

You have so many problems on that computer I recommend a clean install of the OS.

Is there anything critical on there you need to save? If so, copy it to cd first.

Yip you should do a back up , zero fill your drive, boot to the XP cd and reinstall your os , 10 hrs and 20 min is way to long for an INCOMPLETE virus scan
Forget system restore, I never use it and turn it off, I just keep a recent back up on my faithful external drive ( whch reminds me, time to do that )
Just in case I crash and burn
I would make that big maxtor your boot drive since it is a faster drive than your 80 gig which only spins at 5400 rpm

Thank you for your advice, but could set out do all the above mentioned so that I get it right first time with out to many complications. and how do I turn the bigger drive into a boot drive.

And you recommend that I should use the 80GB as a games drive.

Your advice is very welcome as the system is starting to crash on me but automatically restarts itself.

Regards.
