I am in the process of building a new PC, and after successfully formatting, my XP installation gets stuck when trying to copy the driver.cab file. All the components are new - I've even tried another XP Home disk in case this was the problem.....any ideas...?

sometimes this is a memory problem...yes i know its new memory. try a DOS memory test or try some other memory. also, sometimes you can make a copy of the install CD and try the copy to do the install. some CD drives are just flaky that way.

If you are using 2 sticks of memory try taking one out and then try the install

Use only the minimum hardware needed for install.

Keyboard ,mouse, monitor, video, 1 stick of ram,1 optical drive ,1 hard drive.

Leave the rest out of computer until install is
successful.

Thanks for the replies to my query.....before I tried your suggestions, I decided to put my CDRW on as a slave , rather than using two IDE cables and two masters. This did the trick....I think perhaps I had a faulty cable and there were errors in the data transmission. Anyway, all is well and the problem is sorted..:)...I didnt' need to try your memory suggestions, but thanks very much guys. Cheers.....
