I have a customer that lost his printer port. After delelting the port in device manager, windows reinstalls it as LPT2 (with IRQ7 and IO 378). This bios is also set up as these defualts. No prints jobs will print as windows says that there is an error with the port. I changed the bios to irq5 and io278 for lpt2, but this did not help. I added a lpt card, set it to lpt1, disabled the onboard lpt port and let windows install it. Device manager shows this as "printer port" with the correct settings but this does not show up in the "print to the following port" settings in the printer details box. If I print from a command prompt to the lpt card, it works, but windows knows nothing of it. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Did you remove all printer ports in Windows 95 before you disabled the bios ports and installed the printer card?? Also, probably should remove the printer drivers and reinstall.

Yes I did both. Still no luck.

Have you checked for viruses? Some viruses can cause the OS not to recognize various ports etc..

They have Norton 5.0, but I didn't check to see if they had the updates.

I had a similar problem on a 98 SE machine last week. I'm not sure if it was a virus or just Windows corruption, but I eventually fixed the problem by running the PCRESTOR.BAT file on the Win98 CD.

I solved the problem by upgrading them to Win98se. Must have been something corrupted that the regular Win95 install didn't take care of.
