I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S101 Notebook / Lap Top. I am looking for a Sound Card Driver that does not require Service Pack 1 or 2. Service Pack 1 gives me WMI errors that wont end & Service Pack 2 eventually freezes my taskbar & any computer I install it on ends up unusbale. So here I am asking for some help in finding a Sound Card Driver for the Toshiba Satellite A105-S101 Notebook / Lap Top that does not require Service Pack 1 or 2. I would really apprechiate the help. Thanks in advanced

Toshiba has a driver posted here (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1236373&moid=1209144&BV_SessionID=@@@@1801313958.1162419600@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciaddjfgheejlcgfkceghdgngdgmm.0&ct=DL) that should work with all versions of XP, and doesn't require any particular service pack. Your laptop should work fine with all service packs for XP. Since it doesn't seem to, I would start by running a good set of malware removal tools, followed by System File Checker. I think you have more worries that just flaky sound.

You can always try a generic multi-purpose one: look here;

I`ll bet your lappy is similar to mine no floppy. You could find your harrdrives
utility and write zero`s to drive, and then reload windows and then update
with all service packs to have sound drivers installed without problems :)

I'm puzzled, I have never known a driver that insisted that a service pack was required before install. What exact error do you get when you install the driver?

So why not have SP1 and 2?

Have you added software or hardware since you got the laptop?

Have you tried a complete re-install from scratch like xpuser357 mentioned?

Just a sample. I formatted with windows disk and when all was done my settings for wireless passwords were still there!!!!!! Malware can also stay there if it is powerful enough. When you write zero`s all is gone. 1 out of
100 will need to be written again and again.

I have no idea what Malware is but I am right now updating my Windows (recently reformatted) then will install a Service Pack & hopefully all will work since I updated Windows

Do you have a complete registered windows disk? You should have NO
problems with SP1 or SP2. when I recieved my disk SP1 was already
in with my disk. I also recieved sticker of authenticity. DO YOU HAVE
THAT???? Just asking because if your disk is scratch or smudged it also
will not complete.

Malware is a group term for Malicious Software. Included in this group are trojans, viruses, worms and "spyware". XPUser is correct in saying that some malware can be very tenacious.

You didn't reply to my question about the exact error message you get when installing the sound drivers.

It says Service Pack 1 or 2 is required. Anyway here is an update. I reformatted the lap top a few days ago & this morning I updated it with Windows Update & then installed Service Pack 2. After it installed I rebooted the lap top then the entire desktop frozed complete . So I reformat again update the lap top with Windows Update again now I am trying Service Pack 1 & now just finished updating Windows with Service Pack 1 installed. Service Pack 2 completely freezes Windows. Lets see how Service Pack 1 works with Windows completely updated

Have you checked for system, bios or firmware updates at Toshiba? When service pack 2 came out, there was a flurry of fixes from laptop manufacturers as well.

After installing Service Pack 2 it makes me reboot & after rebooting as I said the desktop freezes completely making the lap top unusable. Unless someone here can teach me how to unfreeze the desktop I am stuck with Service Pack 1 :p

umm no, you put the bios and firmware updates on first, then run sp2.

Did you ever try starting in safe mode when sp2 was on?

You can do these updates without having to reformat. there are 4 bios updates for the A105-S101 (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp)

Toshiba ACPI Common Modules for Windows XP is another important update. go here for your model's support (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modelLanding.jsp?moid=1209144&ct=MH&soid=1250460&BV_SessionID=@@@@0367959256.1162487014@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccaddjfgheejfcgfkceghdgngdgnj.0) There are 40 downloads in all available.

Mines 2002 like I said this version is the version of first day of release. I dont feel like spending 200 bucks to get a newer XP with Vista coming out eventually
