I am trying to install a Scanjet 5p on a Win95 machine and having no luck. I can't get it to find the machine. I have removed/reinstalled everything including the software many times and I'm ready to throw the scanner off of my balcony. Any suggestions?

Thanx in advance

Is this a Parallel or SCSI scanner?
If it's a SCSI scanner, HP recommends a different SCSI card. If you have a rectangular SCSI card, it is not PNP.
You need to order the other card from HP, which is triangular.

Does your machine recognize the SCSI card?

Yes, finds the card, but when I test the scanner, I get a message that says scanner is not responding

Try this, unplug the all cable include the power. Then press & hold the "front button"
and plug the power back in. The scanner scanner light should move forward and backward while singing you a song. This is to reset the scanner memory. Might be block that's make the scanner no respone. After singing for about 1-2 minutes unplug the power & put it back in the scanner light should return to original position.Try to plug the SCSI cable again, power on your PC, try detect again.

I tried it, the scanner reset, but still no go...I have given up. The SCSI card is a Sybios logic 53C416 (specifically for hp scanners) and I have found out that nobody supports this card anymore. I guess it's time to hit the after christmas sales and buy a new scanner, and I will be staying FAR away from HP.

Thanx for all the help (and if anyone still has a suggestion, I'm all ears)

Did your scanner light move up & down aft you hold the scan button & insert the power. If yes the scanner hardware is fine else might be hardware faulty. Pls leave your e-mail address I sent you the scsi card driver

I've read this post with interest. Thanks guys.
I do have the 'correct' driver installed...but it isn't as 'functional' as the one I had before I installed WIN98.
My problem? I want my old driver back!
The current (or correct) one doesn't give me the option of scanning a small document but insists in scanning the whole panel (a4 size). The old driver allowed me to grab bits out of the middle with a frame if I wanted and more besides.
Any help on solving this one would be gratefully acknowledged.

I do use PSP as a graphics prog and have both versions (5 & 6) - the latter in 'evaluation mode' at the moment.

Thanks for any help that is forthcoming.
Cheers.
