I was so happy to get two GREAT Xmas gifts (HP ScanJet 4100Cse and 1394DV-Pyro Digital video card), but they're not working w/ my computer!
Video card: I installed the card, & the new hardware was recognized on startup. I was prompted to insert WIN98 CD. Result: 1394bus.sys can't be found. Dead-end.
HP scanner: during software installation, I was prompted to insert WIN98 CD. Result: cannot find files hpsjrreg.exe, usbscan.sys and hpsjvxd.vxd. Dead-end. Now when I boot, I get an annoying message saying cannot find a device file (hpsjvxd.vxd), and I have to intervene to get the thing to start up!
The WIN98 CD (version = "for distribution with a new PC only") was supplied by Dell with the purchase of my computer. Dell tech support says it must be a problem with the devices, not WIN98.
How come my brother got the same scanner to install just fine on his HP computer?
Isn't it curious that BOTH of my devices don't work? WHAT DO? PLEASE HELP!

As for HP4100C scanner you have to install the driver 1st without the USB cable hooked-on. Check your device manager see if there any unknown device/other device if yes REMOVE all of them before rebooting your pc. Plug the USB cable back after rebooting. you should be able to use your scanner. If still failed check your USB inside device manager see if your USB chipset is VIA if yes you may encounter problem cos' VIA chipset have issue with all high speed USB device. Visit VIATECH.COM for patch download.
