I have been working of the folowing system
Dell Dimension XPS R450 with the folowing printers attached Canon BJC-240 and a HP Office Jet with a Printer switch box between them. The problem is that the computer keeps loosing connection to the printers, saying it cannot communicate with printer... If i reinstall the BJC-240 printer drivers everything is fine for a few more days (never tryed reinstalling the HP drivers maby i should) I have removed the switch box with no luck in having the printer working ... it always comes back to reinstalling drivers and the problem seems to be taking less time for it to come back.. anny ideas ???

Go to Canon's driver page, and get what the call a raster driver for your printer(if they make one for the 240) Several of their printers have trouble sharing a switch box or pass-thru setup with the original drivers.
Good luck

HP's are really picky about sharing a LPT. (So are the new Epson 900's for that matter) I would save the hassle and install another LPT port. They are around $10 for ISA and $30-$40 for a PCI Plug and Pray.
