Hi I have a DEL inspiron Lap-top with DVD/CD burner, the DVD will now not read DVD's but will read and burn CD's? Dont know what has happend any help would be appreciated

Can you post the model of the DVD drive, please? If it is a NEC DVD drive, they have had some firmware issues in the past - you can download the latest version of the firmware from the NEC website and follow the instructions therein for flashing.

The DVD model is the Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A

Jamie you need to go to Dell and put your service tag in and check for a firmware update there.

A combination dvd and cd drive has two lasers. If one of them dies then the other still works. Is the laptop in warranty?

If you put a dvd in, exactly what happens? Can you right click and explore the dvd that's in the drive?
