I have a Pioneer DVR-108 internal DVD recording drive. The firmware is current. It will read and record to a DVD+RW, but not a DVD+R. When a blank DVD+R is in the drive it shows up as a "CD Drive" but I can't write to it. I am using TDK 4x DVD+RW and TDK 8x DVD+R. Can anyone give me a guess as to why?

Welcome to Windrivers maravich
I am sure that the discombobulator is off by a micron or two....
Or it coulbe be you need to use 16x media to get +R

Thanks for the quick response and the welcome. I calibrated the discombobulator yesterday, but in doing so I think I fragmented the whatchamajigger. I have also tried 16x media to no avail. I generally use the drive for a nightly backup. I would like to keep archival backups on +R so as not to waste the RW discs.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

What burning software are you using?
Have you tried -R?

I use Nova backup. I haven't tried -R. Is it worth a shot?

Your drive specs say yes.
OK. on page 52 of 77 in the novastor manual here ( http://www.novastor.com/pub/docs/NBK73EN_MANUAL.PDF) there is a information property you can call up... what does it say for dvd+r ?

It says yes for everything but DVD-RAM.
I really appreciate your help, but you don't need to waste any more time on this. I'll try the DVD-R. If it still doesn't work, I'll try back here. Thanks.

I am not wasting my time.. took me 30 seconds to find the manual and a minute to find what I wanted in there...
