I have a DVD burner which decided earlier this week to cease reading any disk except one. which is a backup of some files from a previous install. The windows cd cannot be read as well even when re-booted. I keep getting a message to insert a disk when one is already in it. Please help me someone. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to WinDrivers:
You can try this fix if you think it applies:

Or, if you want, then try this:

Does this mean the computer can't boot from the Windows installation CD? If this is so, then the fault is within the drive. You could try cleaning the laser lens in case some gunk is blocking the laser beam, but beyond that, the drive is toast.
If you didn't mean booting from the CD, but just reading it like others, then try to boot from it, if this works, exit from the install and continue with system faultfinding.
