i bought a lexmark x1290 yesterday and have spent the entire trying to install it without any luck, to the point i'm verging on a nervous breakdown,

the problem seems to be relating to the fact that the virtual printer port is no longer available as an option to setup the install, and when i'm trying to install from the disk, i'm getting a error msg telling me to make sure all cables are connected, which they are, also, it's telling me theres a code 28 when trying to install the drivers, i'm at a total loss,

also, the detect new hardware function is seeing it as a usb hub???

i'm using win2k pro and a p3 1ghz

i also had a p707 installed and working untill the lexmark advisor told me to uninstall it and now it's not being recognised either,

any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Windrivers firefox337

Do you have service pack 4 loaded?
Did you load the driver cd first and then reboot before connecting the printer?

hi and thanks for replying, well i have now resolved the installation issues, which was down to the drivers, which instead of using the driver that the wizard was trying use, i done it manually and selected the alternative drivers that were listed and that fixed the installation problem,

however, now when i'm trying to print, i'm getting a save as dialogue box up instead of printing the page, so i dont know which setting is needing changed, but the scanner and copier are working fine, so if you could shine any light on the printing problem that would be great, thanks.

Printing from where? Have you gone to the Start, settings, printers and set the lexmark as default? Have you selected the printer from the program in which you would like to print?

again thanks for your reply, but i've sorted this problem too, as you suggested i overlooked setting it to default which is now rectified, so all is now fully functional, thank you very much for the help.
