I can't get sound from the internet or play a CD. Any suggestions? Ferrit April 15th, 2007, 10:45 AM This system didn't come with XP did it? http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=2800071 It sounds like the sound isn't installed correctly andersoi April 15th, 2007, 03:39 PM I have had the computer since 2003, bought XP when I bought the computer and installed it. I have never had a problem with it until this past week. I did install a new spysweeper program and a new antivirus/firewall last week. Would that have had anything to do with it? I used PC Doctor and tested my speakers, it didn't work for WAV, but they were loud and clear on the MIDI test. Yet, no sound with any thing. Any ideas? BOB IROC April 15th, 2007, 04:30 PM So you can get AUDIO when a MIDI file is playing, but not a WAV? Did you check your mixer settings to see if the Wav balance is turned down? Ferrit April 15th, 2007, 04:54 PM Or check that the correct devices are choosen? andersoi April 15th, 2007, 08:32 PM This is going to sound terrible, but I don't know the difference between a MIDI and a WAV file. PC Doctor simply had a place to test the speakers and I tested with no output from the WAV, but loud and clear from the MIDI when I tested both channels. BUT, it doesn't matter what I am trying to listen to, whether it be a link someone has sent me in an email or a CD, I get no sound. Where would I find the mixer settings? And where would I check to see if the right devices are chosen? If I go to my Control Panel under Sound & Audio Devices, it says "No Audio Device" and so therefore does not allow me to adjust any of the speaker settings. If I go to my Device Manager, under sound it says that I have Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Drivers, Media Control Devices, Soundmax Digital Integrated Audio, Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device, and Video Codecs installed, all supposedly "working properly" andersoi April 16th, 2007, 07:46 PM What is/are bio's? andersoi April 16th, 2007, 07:50 PM Hey! A friend of mine helped me and now I have sound! My default device was set incorrectly! Not sure how that happened as I have the computer for years without issue, but either way, it is resolved.
