I can't seem to find this anywhere. I am on Windows Vista, basic. Really need this driver :( i've had to download drivers for almost all my other programs when purchasing vista, this is the only one i can't find. perhaps someone else might know...

Welcome to Windrivers atomicbubblewrap
It shouldn't need a driver if you are using the firewire connection. What you will need with Vista is an editing program of some sort because home basic does not include any movie making software. There are a number of editors around, make sure you get one that is vista compatible.
your user manual is here (http://books.jvcservice.com/download/1033535692/38848.pdf)
there are also some compatibility issues shown here (http://www.jvc.com/Resources/FAQ/00/00/00/Vista_Compatibility.pdf)

try going here (http://www.jvc.com/support/index.jsp) and then navigating to your manual.
Do you have the firewire cable connected? Is there a 1394 device shown in device manager?

That suggests you're using USB? As NooNoo says, for video you use the Firewire (DV) connection and the video software should see the camera.

If you are using the i-link/firewire cable you don't need drivers. What's the problem?
