A longtime customer of mine asked me yesterday about Vista Vortex, a mask to put on top of Xindows XP to give it that bloated Vista feel. I Googled it a bit, but came up jumbled. Anyone know if it is good, bad, or indifferent?

I found this url on Anirban's site (http://www.anirban.cc/forum/index.php?topic=3180.msg14783;topicseen)

Disclaimer: I did not look into it or validate its origin. :flames:

Interesting link, but it makes me really nervous. The Hardware Maintenance CD would seem to contain lots of for-pay commercial software for "free".

I told her that I wouldn't mess with it, and if she insisted on using it she was on her own. She seemed to lose interest after that, to my relief. Thanks for the replies, all!

Now, if you Google "vortex vista", I think the first entry (and the remainder of the first page if you're slow to take a hint) say it all.

Dang it, since this post, Google's ranking seem to be changing. Well, I guess that's the price of fame guys. When I did the original search, the site with warez, cracks, and keygens was at the top of the list. Anyway, the point is that if you look at this page, that's pretty typical of the download sites.

Is this something like the Vista Transformation Pack. I used that on my old XP box and it worked just fine. It looked almost just like Vista.

Something like that, but I would expect it has "bonus features".
