Hi all :O)
I have a client which used to work with IE6 on win98.
She has 80,000 favorites and she used to add them via dragging the link from the address bar into IE6 favoriesand then to it's proper sub-folder.
She bought a new computer with VISTA installed, And she complain that :
1. She can't create new folders in her favorites
2. She can't can't add links to favorites sub-folder
Any suggestions ?
Thank you

I think possibly it may be the sheer number of links that has something to do with it.
I have vista and under Organize favorites I have no problem making new folders naming them and putting links into the folders

I gave up and will install xp next week on her computer. I just hope the hugh amount of links won't be a problem...

Hey Noo :O)
They were exported to 5 different browsers that I tried without any problem (it was funny to see the NOT RESPONDING PROGRAM for about 15 minutes while bookmark was imported...)
P.S. Thanks for the link CCT

but even I haven't got over a thousand bookmarks! 80,000 would take her over a year to look at them all, not to mention keeping them updated!
As for the folders problem did you read this? (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933210) Is the favourite folder in the default location, or did you move it ? this is a good read as well (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1809976&SiteID=17)

I tried the cmd line and the import of the favorites on my WMWARE vista, But it didn't let me to create new folder (Only when i used the ORGANIZE FAVORITES menu).
I hope that ferrit is wrong and it won't be an issue on the XP i'll install because of the number of favorites...
This woman is building a hugh index of spirituality sites....Maybe the next google....

She needs to get a heavy duty bookmark programme, I wouldn't trust any browser favourite folders with that many.

I see you Noo, But she is very strict about changes....I'll look for such a program just to be on the safe side, And teach her to backup the current favorites periodically

Tell her to check the dmoz directory for spiritual links and to check the guidlines for using the data.
Google takes the DMOZ data for its directory and so do many others. I am the TAROT editor for DMOZ and there is over 1000 sites in that cat alone.. she has her work cut out for her.. lots of spirituality sites are useless and just there as money making excercise, there is a few good ones with useful data and info though

HH, your client may be resistant to change, but that still doesn't make her approach workable. Certainly, there is no way to properly annotate and organize these sites in a browser. She needs a database if this is a real project and not a hobby horse. Actually, I think any attempt to organize that much material at this point is unrealistic.

Thanks Mayet and slg. I will think about how I can convince her to take the proper action after I'll decide what it is....
