Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1.4322 Update-service prevents hibernation

Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1.4322 Update-service prevents Microsoft Windows XP from entering Hibernation.

Until Microsoft addresses this in the next update please un-install the corresponding hotfix which causes this problem as a temporary workaround.


1) Go to start menu>run> type the following line below.

2) %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322/updates/M928366

3) Press okay button and in the folder which opens run the M928366Uninstall.msp uninstaller.

EDIT: before Noo Noo rips a piece off of me, this issue ALSO applies tio Standby Mode from what I read - I don't know how to do a 'fix' like below for 'hibernation' BUT it does screw up standby as well.

I have read about it in another thread elsewhere.

This works however:

You can set your system to go into Stand By mode automatically by going into the Display Utility in Control panel. To get to this utility and change the Stand By settings do the following:

Click on Start
Click on Control Panel
Click on Display
Click on the Screen Saver Tab
Click on the Power... Button
Change the System standby dropdown to desired time you'd wish your system to go into Stand By mode
Click the OK Button
Click the OK Button
Do the same for the monitor.


(5 minutes of inactivity means you should standby or maybe you are dead and it won't matter anyway)

Sometimes simply un-installing the last .NET Framework update (KB928366) does not correct the problem. Yes this problem affects both Windows Hibernation and Sleep Mode.

If the above post did not correct your problem simply remove all .NET applications from the add/remove programs in the control panel as well as the associated service packs & hot fixes that contain anything to do with Microsoft .NET framework. Versions 1,2 & 3. Reboot the computer.

Download and install the Microsoft Windows Install Clean Up utitility which can be found here:

Use this utility to make sure there are no records of the .NET framework left behind in the windows installer information. After doing so there is a free third party tool that someone has made to remove any left overs just incase the un-installer failed in anyway. After that is done, reboot one more time and begin with downloading and re-installing each .Net Framework over again. If prompted to reboot please do so before applying additional hotfixes or .NET Framework versions.
