I have an HP colorado T1000... i know it wont work in w2k but if there is a new magical way pleez tell me.... otherwise heres my question.... It comes with this wierd cable that u plug into the mobo the down the line u plugh in your cable that goes to your floppy drive (obviously the drive is floppy interface) then at the end of the cable is a floppy like plug but missing some holes so it only fits into the tape drive... i put it into my computer the way it said but neither the floppy nor the tape drive work...so i took off that special cable and put the old floppy cable back in and it works fine..I just cant use my tape drive without that cable...did i flip the cable the wrong way? pleez help me!! if you need any more info pleez personal message me!
thank you! i have one floppy drive, the light doesnt come on in it it seems dead and the tape drive makes it reading noises but isnt found in win 98... it uses travan tr-3 tapes... pleez help!

Do you have more than one floppy installed?
Also you fail to mention if either of the drives lights come on or stay on which would indicate the cable is pin inverted on that device.

Your easyiest solution if you only have one floppy installed is to just use a standard three head floppy cable.

It's a standard qic80 tape device that as you pointed out runs off the floppy interface.

Hope this help you out.

I've got an old Eagle Exabyte TR-3 drive that is hooked up the same way. It worked great in Win95, but I haven't been able to get it to work in Win98 either running off the floppy controller or the included ISA dedicated controller card. I fear our tape drives are destined for obsolesence...

WHOA, check www.veritas.com (http://www.veritas.com) and download a 30-day trial version of their Backup Exec software. I installed it on my Windows 98SE machine and it automatically picked up my old non-plugandplay tape drive and proprietary controller. It's expensive, but if you've got old software you may qualify for upgrade pricing. Click here (http://www.veritas.com/us/buy/family-upgrade.html) for the upgrade pricing and details. Hope this helps.
