hi ......i am having a problem with windows media player ...whenever i go to any site that has video or audio and i click on the link all i get is ..i e cannot display the webpage ....everything is upto date ...

thanks cct... but internet explorer..works fine its just when i click on a link for video......i deleted browser history ....still wont work ...

I read where some people are having problems like that with Windows Media Player 11 and have rolled back to 10 (or st least have uninstalled 11) and been OK then.

Others haven't - worth trying.

Gibson1, has wmp11 ever worked for you? Have you tried using another media player such as quicktime?

To uninstall WMP 11 in Vista go to control panel, add/remove programs, then to the left after the list populates click on add/remove windows components then follow on screen instructions.

I have Vista on my dual core gamer (yea I know, what a mistake eh?) and WMP 11 only works on it for certain things. Therefore I have as Noo Noo suggested installed other media players such as the free VLC you can just by searching the web, that I use.

Made a slight error with my advice above in forgetting to leave this out.
Depending on which version of Vista you have (e.g. Vista Ultimate, Home premium, etc.) what your looking for to the left might say: "Turn Windows features on or off."

Sorry for not including that.

You need to try another player because Windows media does not come with every codec (the understanding about how a file should be played).

Quicktime and real media have their own proprietary codecs - installing them will give you access to them. If the file plays in one player, but not another, then it's likely that the file you have is proprietary to that particular player.
