Hi all i need help. Using my belkin wirles adptor to connect to my parents web feed next door. Iv got good signal. But cnt connect to the internet. Iv done a windows diagnostics for xp and it said "windows has detected a problem with the winsock provider catalog on this pc. This catalogue allows programs to communicate with this pc across the network. Would u like windows to reset the catalog to the default configuration.? The pc mite need to be restarted to restore the network connectivity". I hit yes and it didnt help. I had an alert on mc afee pop up couldnt rember wat it said but i hit allow. Was todo with winsock. Think i should of hit block?. Hope someone can help me with this issue. Iv not had any pc connection to internet for 2 or 3 days now. Im writing all this from my mobile. Many thanx matt.

pcmatty, you need to reset winsock and tcp/ip and you need to do this with mcafee turned off, then turn it back on when you are done.
Hit start, run, type in
cmd
click ok
Type in the following commands exactly as shown one at a time and press enter between each
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
If that doesn't work, you have a net nasty and you will need hijackthis and spybot search and destroy (with the update files) downloaded on another machine and then you can copy them to a usb stick and then install them on your machine.
in the black box that opens type

You could also try using this program to repair it
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
Also you could turn off the mcaffee firewall for now to see if thats interferring

If you can't disable it, uninstall it for the time being and reinstall it when you have the network working.
