Sounds of silence

I can't get the onboard sound to work on a computer I'm trying to fix. It's got a MSI K9AG-Neo 2 motherboard with a AMD 6000+ CPU. Running Windows XP Pro SP2. I tried down loading and installing the latest drivers from their website but part way through I got an error message saying the install had failed. The only thing different about this system is it has a Silicon Image Sil 3114 Sata Raid controller card with 2 mirrored hard drives. could this card be interfering with the onboard sound?

What is the exact error message you are getting when you try and install the drivers?

I did as you said OMGmissinglink And again I got an error message saying the install had failed. There is a difference now, when I tried to play a sound file before I installed the board driver, nothing happened. After installing board driver it goes through the motion of playing the file but no sound comes out. (yes the speakers are plugged in properly and yes they do work) When I check Device Manager it doesn't show any problems. The error message I get when installing the sound drivers is
"Install Realteck HD Audio Driver Failure!! Error Code : -0001"
I'm going to check their website to see if they can help but I have my doubts

A couple of suggestions. Try running System File Checker before you try to load the driver again, and if the driver still fails to load, go back to the original driver CD or try to download an older driver. Sometimes, updated drivers have bugs that aren't caught before they are released. You might also try disabling any AntiVirus or AntiSpyware software running in the background before you run the installation.

1,2 and 3 I've done. 4 and 5 I can't do because the HD drivers didn't install and so I have no HD configure panel Although I did go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and set it up for 2 speakers there.

The system has a F-PROT antivirus Suite I'll try disabling it.
