One of my customers has just decided to put his HP Windows 2000 laptop out of commission and has bought a new Lenovo Windows XP PRO machine.

The machines in his office (W2000) connect to an NT4 server (very old but there you go).

We are trying to connect the new laptop into the server using the same information as his old HP (unplugged from the network and turned off).

The login username and password are the same.
The computer name and domain name are the same.

I've disabled the 'Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) to disable in 'Local Security Settings' and suggested by Microsoft.

I have also disabled the Windows Firewall and Zonealarm.

I have also made sure that 'NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol' is present.

The problem is we are getting the following:

The domain name CADOGANS might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case,
verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.
If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the
following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV)
resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain CADOGANS:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.CADOGANS
Common causes of this error include the following:

I have double checked all the settings from the Windows 2000 machine are the same on the XP PRO machine but I must be missing something!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

While this KB says 2k (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331072) it is valid for NT

Sorry for such a long gap in replying but my client has been on holiday.

I have managed tp successfully connect to the domain (hurray)

The problem know is that I cannot connect to the network or 'Map Network Drives'.

I have removed Zonealarm firewall to check if that was the problem but still no Network.

Any more advice regarding this would be great.

Thanks NooNoo.

After connecting to the domain I could not see the network drives.

I logged off and then found I could change the loggin from the laptop user to the domain and bingo everything worked fine.
