I have an hp520n intel chipset 810e, asus motherboard
pheonix bios v.2438, celeron 1300mhz,
I have an exclamation point on the multimedia audio controller
no sound device, just reinstalled xp pro. All drivers have been updated
but I cannot reinstall ac97 wdm_a404 driver everytime I try the sys
reboots without the install.someone suggested I reinstall the mother-
board drivers, but thats a problem I cannot get the model number
of my motherboard from either asus or hp. I have been all over realtek,hp
and intel. also insured the bios was enabled and the sys inf files are
up to date and working.
any assist will be appreciated,

Welcome to Windrivers don Veaco

Haven't seen one of these in a while, they were originally designed for ME and ME had all the drivers. Now you have to go fishing...

The sound according to the product documentation is Crystal CS4299 and as you rightly say, it's an Asus board, but you will not find support for this board at Asus since it was made especially for HP.

So what you do is have a look at similar boards made by Asus or Intel... and then download the sound driver from there...

chipset drivers (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&DwnldId=8178&lang=eng)

and this sound driver should work ok (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=498&DwnldID=4001&strOSs=19&OSFullName=Windows*%202000&lang=eng)

Greetings.

Download siw. :System Information For Windows." It is a great program and can give you a lot of information about your computer.

http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

Download the "SIW Standalone" save it to your desktop then just double click the icon and scroll down to "Hardware" and you should get all the info you need.

You can even do a system scan and get info on all the currently installed drivers on the system.

Looks like Belarc, Everest, Aida32 etc... anything special about siw teabags?

The HP model number is more than enough to get all the info you need since HP (usually) have all the product documentation available.
