Ran a test on what is/isn't compatible for XP.
Says that my sound card is not. I have the SoundBlaster Live! Value sound card. Is this the same as any live 5.1 card?
will this actually work in winXP?
thanks

The sound card itself is comapatiable (I am using one currently as I type this under XP using the WinXP default drivers with no problems as are a few others here), but you must uninstall the Liveware software first if you are upgrading as this is not yet compatiable. The 5:1 cards have more problems than the standard Value cards under XP currently.

Can I have some more information on the system please? What hardware? Was this an upgrade from Win2K etc?
As much information as possible, please.

Its an upgrade from winME on a dell 866 mhz
SoundBlaster Live! value sound card,
Realtek network card
cdrw
logitec optical mouse
intellitype keyboard(which it said wouldn't work w/ XP as well)
THe following is said not to work for my install:
intellitype pro
AIM
SB Live! value
Disc Detector(creavite labs)
also, can i re-install back down to WinME if i have problems w/ XP. Like just put in my ME boot disk and reinstall it?

If you may wnat to go back to ME then keep the boot drive as FAT32.
Now I kow that it is a Dell, that may explain a few things. Dell buy some hardware that is specially configured for use by them only (say a certain build number etc). I have a sneaky feeling this is what is happening to your sound card. Don't hold me 100% on that but it would not surprise me.
OK, in Add/Remove Programs is there any reference to SB Live at all???? If so remove it. The Intellitype 1.1 drivers work fine under XP and never threw up an error on the ones I have here (MS Internet Keyboard but uses same software as Intellitype Pro), AIM is also compatiable (using it myself except you have to manually start it instead of relying on it to auto start on boot) & Disc Detector is part of the Creative Package from LiveWare.
