i can't play MID files!!!!

i can play every type of music file apart from MID files. i get an error saying i have no sound card when i try in windows media player. Winamp plays it but there is no sound. please help!!!!! I have a soundmax integrated digital audio soundcard.

Hi,
This may sound silly, but have you tried looking at your Volume Controls? Make sure that all devices are listed and turned up (not muted)...if they are not listed, then click on Properties and check that one that you need.
If you've already done that, then belay my last...

Does the soundcard use a sampler (as opposed to a wavetable)? If it does, and you just installed this card, along with it's drivers, then you may have forgotten to install the midi samples. The midi samples are not optional (unless you never plan on playing midi files)!

Try going into add new hardware, tell it not to search, and go under Sound, Video and Game controllers, inder Microsoft MCI and install the Midi Sequencer Device.
