no sound when CD-ROM & CD-RW are connected at the same time

If I have both my CD-ROM and CD-RW connected to my sound card, and I try to play a CD in either drive, I do not get any sound. WHY??? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
This may sound silly, but have you tried looking at your Volume Controls? Make sure that all devices are listed and turned up (not muted)...if they are not listed, then click on Properties and check that one that you need.
If you've already done that, then belay my last...

Which OS are you running, and..., are you using Microsoft Media Player 7.0. If so, then be advised, Media Player 7.0 grabs the audio stream from the mainboard bus. I found this out quite by accident and I tested it by disconnecting the CD audio cable from the sound card. Played just fine. You may have a conflict if both devices are on the same cable.

I think you could only connect one of those to the sound card. What I do is to connect my CD-ROM to the sound card and plug in another set of speakers into the front of the CD-Writer. I hope this solves your problem.

Uhh....did you connect BOTH to the soundcard using the analog audio cables? And to which soundcard and how? Be informed, if you connected one to the TAD connector, this is NOT a stereo audio connector....one of those thingys is an in and one is an out...you may short out some hardware that way. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm24.gif
