It could also be that you r virus is stopping spybot.
Try rebooting to safemode and run it from there.
You could also reboot to safemode with networking
and get the program Malwarebytes .
Install it. Update it and then do a full scan in safemode.

If you then get the computer restarting unexpectedly while it's running a scan you probably have a rootkit - the latest one is Tidserv and it's a pain since it is very good at hiding.

My recent experiences with Spybot failing to complete scans have all been tied to Virtumondo.H so far. My best advice is to download Combofix, rename it, and then run it before any other removal tool. Instructions and download link here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix)

When I rename combofix it tells me I can't rename it and run it.

There are only a couple of routine problems running combofix under Vista that I'm aware of. First of all, you definitely need to run it in safe mode as administrator. Secondly, it has frequent but sporadic problems playing nicely with Windows Defender, so you should disable Defender. Finally, Combofix won't run on 64 bit Vista. Otherwise, it should perform just like it does in XP.

EDIT: You are using a freshly downloaded copy of Combofix, right, Kodiak?
