Hotspot VPNs

Have been looking for an inexpensive VPN to sign up to protect me when using hotspots when traveling. Two that I keep coming across are "Hotspot VPN" and "Witopia". I can not seem to find any reviews or comments about how safe they are and how safe information is with them.

Anyone know anything about VPN to use while traveling or comments on Hotspot and Witopia? This would be for laptop.

If you have a hackable router like wrt54g you can install the dd-wrt firmware and set your own vpn server.
