Hi All,

Have a glitch in Windows 7 RC. I have a Samsung ML-1740 Laser printer attached to a Linksys PSUS4 4 port switch with usb print server. I have tried to use the Universal Print Driver/The Vista Driver and point to the PSUS4 using the assigned static IP address. This configuration works perfectly with Win2K as well as WinXP. I can not get this to work with Windows 7. I am leaning toward the driver not being compatible with Windows 7, any thoughts??

As usual, thanks in advance.

Have you got a Vista installation you can check this against? It may be a Vista problem as well... need to confirm that.

Windows 7 has native support for several of Samsung's ML series printers with both PCL6 and PS, so you might try using one of them to see if you get output.

If I plug the usb printer directly in to the computer running Windows7, it works fine. But when I move the port to the IP address, It does not print. I set the exact settings that works with XP, but can not get it to work with Win7. And no, I do not have a Vista box to see if it also has a problem. I guess I could shre the printer on the Home Server and just point it there?

You say the settings on the Win7 machine are the same. Does that mean you've configured the tcp/ip port as a LPR port using P1 (the normal default name for the Linksys) as the que name on the Win7 computer? This works in Vista and should in Win7 as well.

I don't have a Vista box in this network to check to see if it also affects Vista. And yes, I have all the IP's and LPR settings exactly the same as in the Win2K and WinXP boxes that work. Still no joy. Is there a generic driver that I can try other than the Samsung drivers?

try it as a hp laserjet II... or text printer.

OK, here is how I got it to work..... installed a generic text printer to the ip address, then I plugged the Samsung printer in using a USB cable. I let windows install the printer, which it used the Samsung generic universal driver, once installed, I got into the printer properties (the generic Samsung Universal Driver will only let you into the printer properties as long as it is attached with a USB cable) and changed the port from the USB to the IP port I created for the text only printer. It now works, but the only way into the printer properties is to hook it up with a USB cable. I think that this is a limitation of the Universal Print driver, so I am going to say that the whole problem was a limitation of a driver.

Certainly sounds that way. Glad you got it working though.
