So far my impression is that MS has done a very good job with Windows 7.

Only time will tell for sure, but it is already looking like it will join the ranks of the good MS operating systems, DOS 6.22, Windows 3.11 for Workgroups, Windows 95B, NT 4 by the time of SP6a, Windows 2000, and XP by the time of SP2.

I am looking forward to the release as well, House! I agree 100% with your list of operating systems, by the way. Dos was so powerful, quick and as long as you remembered the commands, easy. Windows 3.1 was a revelation, a bit buggy, but point and click with the operating system was great! Then I bought " Microsoft Bob " and my opinion of Microsoft left the building, along with Elvis...

It's been released for a while... not "retail" but it's on MSDN.

Also on AP '
I have been using it in the ultimate 64 bit flavor for over a month and i cannot remember when i used something so stable. Everything and I mean everything just works.
I love the backup and create a restore dvd built into ultimate. I am assuming that in the case of single pc's you wont need other imaging software.
I do like that the performance rating has jumped to 7.5 i think it is.
Also shows that now hard drives are the bottleneck.
All in all it was the smoothest transition of any of them.

Agreed, I've been usung 7 since the beta back in febuary and I won't go back, no matter what. In my opinion, it's what Vista should have been.

Some MS partners also have Open/Vol media in house.
