Hi,
I have a home network of 3 computers that connects to a 10/100 tplink router.
I thought adding a 5 port gigabit switch and replace network cards BEFORE the network cables enter the router, In order to turn it to a GIGABIT network, But I'm afraid that since the router acts as a DHCP server, It will downgrade communication speed. Am I right ?
Thanks

DHCP hands out IP addresses, once the IP lease is assigned, it no longer plays any part in communication. Client to client on the giga switch will communicate without problems at full speed. Only Data that passes through the router will be degraded in regards to speed.
Example:
computer # 1 is on the router, Computer #2 and #3 are on the gig switch
Communications from comp #2 and #3 will be at gig speed. Either computer talking to comp # 1 will be degraded to 100 meg

Thanks for the info Mat.
As a matter of fact i will connect all 3 computers to the Gigabit switch, And then connect the router also to the switch, So I'll have maximum transfer speed between all of the computer....
