Hi, I'm really frustrated. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me how to set up a Soundblater Pro 2 Card to use as a CDROM interface. The model number is CT1600.

Forgot one thing, I'm setting up an old 486 DX2 to use as a teleprompter and don't have anything on it. I have everything else set up like the hardrive, floppy, etc. Just the CD-Rom drive. Also, do i have to install anything to get the interface working?

First thing to know about the SBPro CD Interface: I used to have one of these cards, and for it's time it worked well. But the interface is proprietary, IT IS NOT IDE. Some SB-16's had an IDE interface built in, but the one on the SBPro (even though it is 40 pin, same as IDE) it is NOT IDE. You'll need to find a Panasonic 562 double speed CD-ROM. To my knowledge, no other CD-ROM will work with that card.

If you have that CD-ROM drive, then cool. But I think you'll need to get DOS drivers because I think no Windows 95 drivers are available for it (and I know, I installed Win95 the day that it was released with that CD-ROM and sound card combo.)

Man do I feel old!

You can get the drivers here: http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/drivers/drivers_default.htm

The CR563/B will also work with the SB Pro. The WIndows 95 drivers are actually built into the Operating System itself under Panasonic MKE CD-Rom Interface (if I remember correct as it has been so bloody long since I used Win95). You may also need to install DOS first then the DOS drivers for the SB Pro, and then the CD-Rom drivers.

Yes, if you want to use a 562/563 drive on that card, it will all install with Win9x's own drivers. If you want to install from a CD, you will have to have the DOS drivers & MSCDEX set up first, or temporarily put an IDE CD-ROM drive in as a slave.

Why not just do that anyway? Are you using two hard drives in a system with only one IDE channel?

There are a couple of earlier topics which also discuss this. This links to both:

ive set a few of those way back, the y were made for the panasonic 562/563 cds thies is a driver to make that work i think it was on panasonics websight for a dos driver, might have been on creatives sight,, im unshure,, any way when useing windows 95, drivers you have to goto control p, ad new hardware, cdrom controlers panasonic proprietary, and ad it in manually, then hook up the cdrom and tell cp install new hardware to auto detect if it doesent find it manually change the in out addy to the one the cards set to,, , i actually had one working for some one almost a year ago, i eaven made them a boot disk that found it with the dos driver .. eah it worked ok,, im off the box
