Greetings all-
I am almost out of hair to pull- I have here a Packard Bell 2900 system. I put a fresh load of Windows 95 on it. Everything is fine except for the sound/modem card. It is the sound 288 card, FCC ID # 138-mmsn843.

I can get the sound to work on it (it comes up as Aztech), but cannot get the modem to even recognize, even though it is on the same card.

Now in control panel, there is a device that is coming up as "Communications port" but it says it "is disabled in the hardware". I already have a COM1 installed, that is having no problems.

This system is really frustrating me, the lack of support from anyone doesn't make it any better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Al

I really don't know what else to add...

Other than being so pissed i could throw this PC thru a window. Why does PB have to make things so stinking difficult?

As I said before, this system has a combo modem/sound card in it. I don't have the original driver/restore disk (wish I did). I did a re-format and put Win 95 back on it. The sound card works fine, the modem does not. It is not being detected by Windows at all. From my understanding, this sound card is the "sound II 288 card" i have the drivers, but they do not have anything on the modem.

Does anyone out there know about this?

Thank you,

Al

I have been to all the Packard Bell support sites, with no luck.

All I can do is suggest a new modem. The PB /soundcard/modem I have has a Texas Instruments chip for the modem and Aztech chip for sound but can't find any drivers that work with the modem either. I pulled the card and replaced it with an AWE64 sound card and Lucent PCI modem and I still have all my hair.

Thanks for the words,
The genius that I am, I just discovered this sound/modem card combo is only a 14.4 modem!

Needless to say, I am looking for a modem right now. The sound card portion is working again (sigh)

Thanks,

Al

You have a combo 3. Just give up. I worked for PB for a number of years and all those cards were tripe. The hardware was a ramshackle, and the drivers where pathetic. If you get it to work count your lucky stars, cause you just lost at least one.
