Im positive the cable is hooked up becuase my sound is onboard .I had it working but i had to reinstall windows and drivers becuase my comp screwed up. Now the sound works but when i try to play the cd no sound comes out.All other sounds work.

even if the sound is "onboard" you still need a cable connection to the mobo from the cdrom. try a pair of headphones in the cdrom front panel jack and see if you have sound on an audio cd

If it was working prior to re-installing Windows , then the cable must have been hooked up.Have you opened multimedia and checked the settings there , also open the mixer and be sure the CD is enabled , volume is up and disable is not checked .
