VIA AC97 onboard sound not working. I have an epox 8KTA Socket A board with the KT133 chipset and I can't get the onboard sound to work. Windows doesn't see it in devices at all and it only seems to work when I play cds. When I try to run winamp I get a wave_out.dll error...I tried downloading the VIA Audio drivers from epox's website and I still can't get it working right. Any ideas? Maybe I'm installing them improperly somehow.

Check the BIOS. Verify if your onboard sound card is enabled. You may need to change its settings (Memory Range and IRQ), depending from the BIOS. If so, my opinion is to load Setup Defaults.

Also check the motherboard's manual to see if you need to check some jumpers too.

Then reinstall the driver.

If it wouldn't work, probably there's a hardware problem.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

just so you know, the cdrom plays because it has its own d/a converter, and the sound card merely passes the sound thru.
